Tioga Pass closes during winter months. Typically, November to May.
Runner Notes
Circumnavigating the loop, with a short section on the road is a great, quick leg burner.
Description
Starting at the Lembert Dome Picnic area or the Lyell Canyon Trailhead follow the marked trail towards Dog Lake. Follow the trail to the eastern side of the dome. If coming from the picnic area make sure to take a right at the junction of the two separate routes. The
Lembert Dome Spur Trail to the dome is well-marked, look for cairns (stacked rocks) to show the path of least resistance to the summit. Stay right at this junction, and the trail flattens out and continues up to a junction with
Dog Lake Trail.
Do not attempt this run if there is any chance of storm. But if there's no chance of storms, the views of Tuolumne Meadows and the surrounding high country cannot be beat.
Flora & Fauna
Ponderosa pine, white pine.
