The steep side slopes and narrow trail make this a high-consequence run.

Though strenuous in nature, this trail is perfect for visitors who are seeking dramatic views without having to descend all the way to the bottom of the Black Canyon. This loop begins with a descent as you drop through scrub oak thickets. The route continues on, passing through more native forests filled with aspen, Douglas fir, and further oak trees. Take the time to stop and appreciate the views at two overlook points, as the dense tree cover can obscure some of the grandeur of the area.

Eventually, the trail will return you back to the access path and the visitor center. Note that you'll have to make up the elevation that you lost at the beginning, and the ascent can be tough. Save some energy for the return trip! There are some steep side slopes, and the trail is fairly narrow, which might make this a tough trail for those with a fear of heights.
