Description
The route starts and ends in Seneca Creek State Park, near the playground. From there, head east towards the
Long Draught Trail which joins up with the
Seneca Creek Greenway Trail. Follow the blazes until the parking lot on Rte 28 (Darnstown Rd).
Pick up the
Seneca Bluff Trail by leaving the parking lot and crossing the road. Continue moving to the west...away from trail you just came from and against traffic. The new trail will be on your left. Continue on the
Seneca Bluff Trail until it eventually comes out on River Rd. Turn left and cross the bridge (do not cross the street) and turn onto Seneca Rd. If you end up at Rileys Lock, you've gone the wrong way!
From Seneca Rd, pick up the
Seneca Creek Greenway Trail on your left. Follow the
Seneca Creek Greenway Trail back to Rte 28 (this time the trail goes underneath Rte 28) and on towards Black Rock Mill.
From Black Rock Rd, it is about 26 miles if you return to Seneca Creek Park via the
Seneca Creek Greenway Trail (on the other side of the bridge and stream). If you choose to continue on the
Seneca Ridge Trail and include a lap around Clopper lake once back at the park, the total distance is closer to 50K (maybe a bit over!)
History & Background
There is a former working mill with interpretive outdoor exhibits located at Black Rock Rd.
