Overview
Looping tightly around the lake, this route offers plenty of shade without compromising great views of the lake. Beginning and ending on a paved path, the dirt trail and singletrack in between makes for some decent climbing among the eucalyptus trees.
Need to Know
Bathrooms are available at several locations along the route.
Description
Start at the marina, heading clockwise around the lake along
West Shore Trail. Duck and geese are usually visible here. There are rolling hills over the next 1.75 miles on a paved path. The loop continues over a dam crossing before going onto the
Bass Cove Trail. This dirt trail provides the first real hill of the route before continuing onto more rolling hills with continued views of the lake.
Look for a right onto
Columbine Trail where you'll need to go over a short, wooden path before starting the few miles of singletrack. This trail is mostly shaded for the next few miles with some obstructed views of the lake and one decent-sized hill. This is a great spot to see deer. At about mile 5.5, there is a bench on the trail overlooking the lake. This is the best place to stop and enjoy the view.
Next comes a quick descent before coming to a fairly flat, dirt trail. Make a right on
Live Oak Trail to run across a narrow wooden bridge and up a flight of stairs. Take a right onto
Cameron Loop Trail for the last bit of dirt path before heading straight onto the paved path of
East Shore Trail. Continue on this shaded trail with more rolling hills to take you back to the marina.
Flora & Fauna
Deer and wild turkey are seen on occasion. Geese and ducks are always present.
