Hunting is permitted during parts of the year which may close parts of the trail near the dam. It's best to ask in the Visitor Center.
Description
The trail around the south half of Barr lake passes through the Wildlife Refuge, while the north half is fairly open.
Along the west side of the lake, the trail runs very close to the train tracks. Frequent uses suggests staying away from those areas when a train is approaching.
Fishing is allowed along the trail with a Colorado Fishing License. There is no fishing from the dam or other water structures and while in the Wildlife Refuge.
Leashed dogs are allowed on trails on the north end of Barr Lake, but are NOT allowed in the Wildlife Refuge at the south end of the lake. There are no options for taking your dogs around the whole lake.
Flora & Fauna
Birds, deer, toads, fish, cottonwood trees, and lots of cockleburrs and and other spiky / clingy seedpods scatter this trail.
