Runner Notes
A popular spot, use caution when approaching and passing other trail users.
Description
There are two spots to access this loop trail, and thus two ways to run this loop. This trail can be accessed from the end of the
Bobcat Trail if you're coming south from the Sonoran Desert Drive Trailhead. Visitors can also access this loop from the Desert Vista Trailhead. The trail is described from the Desert Vista Trailhead.
This trail is well-marked. Visitors will start this loop on one side of the southern mountain and then loop around the side of the north mountain with beautiful views of Dove Valley. The trail is rolling and beautiful in either direction, but the ascents are a bit smaller if taken in the counter clockwise direction.
This loop also gives runners access to two short summit trails to reach the tallest peaks in the Southern Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve. Be aware that the trail will became narrow in a few spots, but generally remains wide enough to safely pass other trail users.
The route is almost entirely exposed, so bring plenty of water and sun protection, especially if you'll be embarking during the hot summer months.
Flora & Fauna
Many prickly desert flora can be seen, such as cactus, cholla and yucca. Lizards, birds of prey and other desert fauna can also be seen.
