Probably the hardest way to get up to Trapper Lake, but is certainly a beautiful trail.

Runner Notes

If you are in a rush, your feet will get wet.

Description

You cross the Cherry Creek three times during on outing on this trail. There are ways to get across without getting wet feet, but it takes a little figuring. After the first water crossing, the trail can be hard to follow as it gets blown out by heavy snow melt in the spring. Stay near the creek and keep heading west, and you'll pick up the trail again.

After the third water crossing, the trail pitches up, and this is where you gain nearly all of the elevation. Large boulders placed by glaciers can be seen in this area. There aren't many views until you almost reach the top, but even those are limited due to dense tree cover.

Flora & Fauna

I went in late summer during a drought year so the huckleberries were nearly non-existent. Normally though, they are plentiful and offer a nice snack during the trip. Lots of squirrels and deer signs were on the trail. I did run across a large pile of bear dung on the trail but saw no other sign of bears.
