Description

The Falls Lake Trail is a 60-mile trail along the southern shore of Falls Lake and is a segment of the state-wide Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Section 1 starts at the Falls Dam/Tailrace area and starts along a gravel road. The trail then dips into the woods and comes to a split with the Blue-Dot Trail. Bear right to stay on the white-blazed trail (white circle blazes are used throughout the MST).

The trail crosses a road twice and then heads down some wooden steps towards the lake shore and follows the shore mostly south. The trail passes a clearing and then winds around a couple of coves. In about 2.5 miles, a spur trail leads to Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve, a City of Raleigh park.

Past here, the trail follows a rocky tributary of Honeycutt Creek and then follows Honeycutt Creek up to the bridge on Raven Ridge Road, which is the end of Section 1.
