Weather determines the restrictions. One gallon of water is recommended per person for summer visitors. Layers are necessary for winter visits as high winds and snow can occur.
Description
Heading out from atop the campground, just left of Camp 30, head towards the water tower. Go left at this point. After about a ¼ mile, runners will reach a junction with the
Burnt Hill Trail. Go right at this point to stick to the
Panorama Loop. You'll start a gradual climb through a large wash. After another ¼ mile, there will be a split, stay left.
As you continue up the wash, you'll come into the narrowing that is Black Rock Canyon. There is a sign that has two sets of initials, PL and MP. This is the beginning of the
Panorama Loop. MP leads up to the Moranga Peak Trail located off of the backside of the
Panorama Loop trail. As the trail narrows it winds up and on to the southern boundary of the
Panorama Loop.
There is a set of steep switchbacks leading up to the ridge top once you get out of the canyon. From the top, you can look over to the mountains behind Palm Springs as you travel west. Continue on the south side of the ridge until you come upon an old jeep road that will loop to the north and back around to the beginning of the Black Rock Canyon. Then continue to loop back to the starting point.
