Runner Notes
A short, easy trail that may be crowded due to its ease of access from the nearby visitor center and the chance to see elk.
Description
The Elk Meadow Trail can be accessed either from the marked southern trailhead in Elk Prairie Campground or at the northern end from the junction with the
Cathedral Trees Trail.
Along this trail, visitors will run through one of the most heavily populated Roosevelt elk areas in the park. The large meadow offers the chance to get an up-close look at the elk in their natural habitat. Also, keep an eye open for other evidence of elk in the area such as signs of antler rubbing and browsing which is obvious on numerous trees along the trail.
Flora & Fauna
You'll have the opportunity to see herds of Roosevelt elk, the largest of six subspecies of elk in North America. For more information on the elk herds in the park, visit the park's
website.
