Overview
This run is a great way to access some scenic falls using a fire road off of Skyline Drive. With easy parking found at the Lands Run Gap parking area, this may be a short trip based off of mileage but it will still feel rewarding with the moderate grade and elevation change.
Description
Off the west side of Skyline Drive, use the
Lands Run Gap Road to head downhill for about a half-mile. The road was regraded about ten years ago so it is in fairly good shape though it can be fairly steep. Be on the lookout for a low point where a small stream flows under the road. Follow the stream about twenty-five feet to the right toward the top of the falls.
The falls are a group of small waterfalls that drop a total of approximately 80 feet through a narrow gorge. Except in spring, when the snow is melting, or following rainy periods during summer, there typically isn't much water flowing here. Unfortunately, there is no vantage point from which you can see all the falls at once.
To see the first cascade, head across the stream to the left bank and cautiously work your way down through the rocks, watching out for poison ivy during the warmer months. Please stay on the path for your own safety and to prevent damage to sensitive vegetation.
