Overview

The Endless Wall Trail is a lesser-known trail in the New River Gorge, making it a perfect place for runners to get away from the crowds and experience the New River Gorge's natural beauty in a more remote setting. Often used as a climbing access trail for its proximity to famous sandstone cliffs in the area, visitors will enjoy the Endless Wall Trail for its views of both the New River Gorge below, as well as climbers on the walls around them.

This run was recently awarded the USA Today Reader's Choice Award for Best National Park Hike, so get out and experience it for yourself!

Need to Know

Be sure to bring your camera to capture the gorgeous views of the New River Gorge along the trail.

For families with children, be sure to keep them close, as steep drop-offs are present in various spots along the trail.

Description

Starting at the west trailhead off Lansing-Edmond Rd. near Fern Creek, travel south along the trail through lush hardwood forests, crossing Fern Creek just before reaching the gorge rim. Along the trail, keep your eyes peeled for climber's access tunnels, identified by metal ladders leading down into sandstone caves. For the more adventurous, these access points provide an enthralling, albeit more strenuous addition to the run.

Bypassing the climbing access points, run along the rim to the Diamond Point Overlook for stunning views of the New River Gorge. Continue along the trail, peering through the trees to the New River Gorge below, before eventually reaching the eastern parking area and the end of the trail. Runners can either turn around at this point and follow the trail back to the western parking area, or run 0.5 miles back to their car along the road.
