Dogs Leashed
Features
Wildflowers · Wildlife
Self-enforced closures when trail is soft from rain, breakup, and snow. Be considerate of other users and don't leave holes.
Runner Notes
Long Lake Connector's designed use is skiing, but so the surface is relatively smooth unless rutted by bike or ATV use when ground is soft. This is a great trail for a rolling hill workout.
Description
Long Lake Connector is a great trail for rolling hills since it's wide and allows you to see other traffic and wildlife. It passes through all four land owners (Mat-Su Borough, Alaska State Parks, and University of Alaska Anchorage and Fairbanks). The best hills are near the center and at each end. There are a few breaks in the trees where you can peek at the surrounding mountains.
Side trips can include the Moose, Fox, or Bear Trails as well as University fields.
Flora & Fauna
Birch and spruce trees, low shrubs, and herbaceous plants. Watch for moose, but spruce hens are more likely to surprise you as they blast off the ground.
