Runner Notes
Much of this route is runnable, but you'll want to use caution descending into the canyon.
Description
After splitting from the Burkhart Trail, the Devil's Punchbowl Trail follows the southern edge of the Devil's Punchbowl Canyon for a couple of miles. This portion of the trail is gently rolling, but mostly flat. You'll be navigating a ridgetop, so take in the incredible views and the breeze that your vantage point affords.
After a few miles of this gentle terrain, the trail begins descending a series of switchbacks that lead part way into the canyon. The trail continues to the east, passing the
Devil's Chair Spur (which heads slightly northwest) and descending into Holcomb Creek Canyon. From here, the trail starts heading up a series of switchbacks to get over a ridge before dropping into the South Fork Campground, where the trail comes to an end.
Some visitors will want to park another car at the South Fork Campground, but your other alternative is to simply return the way that you came.
