The trailhead is located in a gated community. Let the Guard know your there for trail access, and he will give you a parking pass.

Runner Notes

The first section would be an easy run the second section would be a bit more tough but doable.

Description

Take the H1 east until you reach the end of it (you'll know you're at the end once you're at a stop light). At the second light you'll make the left hand turn onto Laukahi St. Follow this road all the way up till you get to the private communities gate. Pull up to the guard and let him know you're going up to hike. He will give you a pass for your car, or if it's busy sometimes they just wave you through. However, I have also gone up and been denied access because there were already many people running it. Once through the gate follow the signs for the trail up Laukahi St. Once you reach the end take the left onto Okoa St. You'll drive maybe 250 yards more and you'll come across the parking for the trailhead. Alright you have made it this far let the adventure begin!

Once you're parked continue up the the road, it will be a dirt road for the first part of the way. If you're going on a hot day this dirt road part is not the best, as there is very little shade on this part. However, the portion on the road is more of a mellow incline which takes very little effort. After running for a bit, the trail narrows and starts going up, you'll eventually come to a section of stairs some of them are a bit funky so do be careful! Also there is one section about 2/3 the way up that is a bit technical involving some ropes. They aren't really needed but I do suggest that you use them for safety and because why the heck not? After passing this rope section the tough part is complete enjoy the rest of your hike past the radio tower and up just a bit farther. At the end of the trail you'll find a bench which is a great place to eat your lunch or snacks. The total round trip distance for this trail is roughly 4.4 miles and my GPS recorded about 1,562' of elevation gain.

Always remember to pack out whatever you pack in and be prepared, this trail is great but can become extremely slippery when wet.
