Runner Notes
This trail is a bit rockier from Windy Road through to the feeder track down to Lake Tikitapu. Cellular reception is adequate through most of the trail.
From Windy Road onwards this road forms a part of the Tarawera Ultra Marathon Course.
Description
Please note that this is a forestry road, which has occasional LOGGING TRUCKS and forestry vehicles sometimes moving at SPEED. Please obey all signage that might indicate a closure, as the roads are often closed to recreational use when active logging occurs.
This trail begins at the intersection of Lynmore Link and Pipeline Road. The start may be a bit vague, but it's located by the largish rock where there is a spring water drinking fountain, found just below the road over the pipeline bridge.
The undulating dirt road is pine tree shaded and often strewn with pine needles. Graded for truck use, the route is mellow and pleasant. The route becomes a bit rockier once the way passes Windy Road, and the track narrows to singletrack. You'll continue on this trail as it moves past the gate opposite the black shack on Tarawera Road.
Flora & Fauna
This trail is characterized by pine forests with native falcons that may swoop overhead in the spring.
