Dogs Leashed
Runner Notes
This route is great for running as long as you don't mind being in good company.
Description
Starting at the parking lot for Columns Drive, this trail is a wide-open dirt/gravel track. This section of the path follows adjacent to the Chattahoochee River and provides fairly generous shade from the trees on both sides, despite the width of the trail. The caveat to this is that the trees on the "river side" of the trail often obscure one's view of the river almost entirely. The trail is used heavily by walkers, runners, people with dogs, strollers, etc. It is a nice trail to use, however, if you don't mind being around other people or are with a small workout group yourself as it is wide enough to accommodate multiple people without having to stay single file.
The parking lot at Columns Drive has a restroom and water fountain, as does the one at Interstate North. If you go straight at CS 20 and continue southwest for about another mile, you'll eventually dead-end at the parking lot for Interstate North. There are also a few access points from which to see the river along the trail, a couple of which (on the southern half) have either a wooden viewing dock or a clearing with some logs/trees to sit on. These make great little picnic/rest spots.
