Runner Notes

Not a lot of running to be had here, this ascent is about as hard as they get.

Description

Leaving the Atiwhakatu Hut, the climb begins immediately with technical trail and tree roots that sap your strength and work you to the brink. Just maintaining forward momentum will be difficult but persistence is rewarded with a rapid ascent to the Jumbo Hut where the treeline falters and alpine terrain begins.

You have to earn it though, and your GPS will record kms in excess of 33% gradient. Good luck!
