Hop on the TRT: Brockway Summit to Tahoe Meadows for a fantastic experience amidst stunning alpine landscapes complete with northern views of Tahoe's volcanic past and present, and southern views of the cerulean Lake Tahoe Basin.
Starting at the Brockway Summit TRT Trailhead Parking Area, follow the trail north as it switchbacks its way through beautiful coniferous forests and wildflower-rich meadows to the summit of Mount Baldy roughly 8 miles in.
Atop Mount Baldy, the trail takes a brief respite from sustained climbing, taking visitors on a more rolling route as it contours the hillside past Rose Knob and Rose Knob Peak.
Along your journey, be sure to take breaks, sit, and appreciate the almost surreal views surrounding you on all sides. Lake Tahoe is truly a special place, and its wonder ought not be missed for the sake of making marginally better time on trail.
From Rose Knob Peak, the trail continues to offer spectacular views as it traverses a ridgeline, upon which it eventually switchbacks up to the summit of the tallest peak along the
Tahoe Rim Trail: Relay Peak (10,338 ft). From here, look north to view glacially-scoured slabs of crystalline granite formed millions of years ago juxtaposed with the dormant, but still volatile volcanism of Lassen Peak. Looking to the south, the view of the lake is simply unrivaled.
After enjoying the summit, begin a gentle descent along a saddle to the flank of Mount Houghton. From Mount Houghton, the trail continues to descend for a considerable distance, bypassing a junction with the
Mt. Rose Summit Trail and the enormous Galena Falls on the way to its end at the Mt. Rose Summit Trailhead Parking Area.
