Description
The trailhead is marked "Pillbox" and starts with an incline that levels out eventually when you reach the first pillbox. You can see the second pillbox from the first one. From start to the second pillbox is about .5 miles.
The first quarter of the trail is has some loose dirt and rocks that are easy to slip on but it's very do-able. There are some shrubs along the way, but it's a very defined trail and there's not much to block your path. Once you reach the peak, the pillboxes are visible and there is not much of a grade for the rest of the trail. If you continue past the second pillbox there will be thicker brush to scratch at your legs and maybe poke your shoulders, but the trail is still fairly defined and easy to follow.
There will be a left turn that leads into a saddle. Once at the end of the saddle you'll descend through thick brush that will require you to slow down until you eventually hit the pavement where you can go back to your car or cool down in the waters of Lanikai Beach.
