Day-use and overnight (non-campsite) parking is at a lot near the entrance station. Add 1.2 miles (round-trip) to your run to allow for running through the campground to this trailhead. There is a day-use fee (currently $9) to enter this park.
Runner Notes
Mellow grade and good tread for those looking for a fire road run.
Description
The General Creek trailhead is located inside the Sugar Pine State Park campground and was the location of several 1960 Winter Olympic cross country and biathlon events. There are a number of historical markers located along the trail. The trailhead is an unmarked dirt road, closed to vehicles, that begins next to Campsite #150.
From the trailhead, the road leads west along the north bank of General Creek. Several bridge crossings over the creek are located along the trail allowing for a pleasant loop trip. At the upper part of the trail, you'll reach the upper footbridge. From there you can cross over the footbridge and follow the road back east to the trailhead, or turn right onto the
General Creek Trail as it heads toward the Desolation Wilderness.
