Dogs Leashed
Description
From the parking area, take the only marked path down to the river and head right. This trail is usually pretty deserted and in need of some love, but the history behind the area is a pretty neat story. I gave this an intermediate rating because of some of the ways the trail goes up over some of the ruins and back down (there are a couple of steep spots). If you go, please take a bag and help clean up the area. When you get to the end, just turn around and head back to the parking area.
Along the rocks by the river, you’ll see steel rods and an eye bolt and holes bored in the rock which used to support the bridge to cross to the other side. On the other side, there are even fewer remnants of Joppa Iron Works as it was taken over by a handful of distilleries which were in production up until 1958.
