Description
Jump on the Hog Rock Nature Trail for a delightful running experience amidst the established hardwood forests of Catoctin Mountain Park. Along the way, expect great views and forested solitude.
Starting at the Hog Rock Parking Area, follow the trail south through verdant deciduous forests, veering right at the first intersection to take the long way to Hog Rock Overlook. On a clear day, the view from Hog Rock can be spectacular, spanning from the eastern portion of Catoctin all the way down into Thurmont and the surrounding area.
After taking in the view from Hog Rock, you have two options: either return back to your car via the Hog Rock Nature Trail or continue south along the
Hog Rock Vista Trail as it descends steeply to Rocky Ridge Road.
Flora & Fauna
Keep your eyes peeled for oak, hickory, and tulip poplar along the trail. If your tree identification skills are a little rusty, be sure to pick up a free informational brochure at the trailhead.
