A steep climb and lots of rock make this a strenuous ankle grabber.

The Old Misery Trail is primarily used as an alternate route to the stunning views atop Cat Rock.

Starting from Catoctin Hollow Road near Hunting Creek Lake, follow the orange-blazed trail as it climbs strenuously at first through dense woodlands. Switchback your way up the mountain along rocky terrain, being sure to take a break, turn around, and enjoy the fantastic scenery around you.

Upon reaching the top of the hill, continue following the orange blazes across the top and down into a wide ravine, at which point the trail ends in a junction with the Cat Rock Trail.

To reach Cat Rock, continue to the right along the Cat Rock Trail for a short distance to the Cat Rock Connector.
