Runner Notes
This nearly 2-mile loop is a great route if you're looking to get your heart rate up!
Description
The South Rim Trail is a great extension of the
Willow Creek Trail, but is a bit more strenuous! You'll continue to enjoy the beautiful views of sandstone fins from the
Willow Creek Trail, but you'll also get a bit more elevation gain and some views of the open prairie.
This trail can be accessed from two points on the
Willow Creek Trail, and either will provide you with a pleasant outing. Starting from the western intersection, you'll get your climbing out of the way in a slightly steeper, but shorter section of trail, allowing for a more gentle descent. No matter which way you travel, take your time admiring the geologic features in the park, and the lovely views afforded along the way. Once you've returned to the
Willow Creek Trail, head back to your vehicle, or explore other trails in the area.
