Trailhead closed - Cathedral Rock/
South Loop trailhead closed for winter
Overview
This is a short route off of the
South Loop Trail that brings you to Griffith Peak. The climb is great for a day trip or in addition to heading up to Charleston Peak.
Runner Notes
Fast singletrack with not too much loose rock makes this a pleasant run.
Description
This trail finally reopened after being closed for the past three years due to the Carpenter 1 fire in 2013. This trail makes a great starting point to reach Griffith Peak, or you can continue to the Mt. Charleston summit and back.
Another option is to do the
South Loop to
North Loop connector. There are breathtaking views the entire trail. Plenty of switchbacks bring you up through the aspen, ponderosa, and bristlecone pines to just over 11,000 feet at the Griffith Peak.
Flora & Fauna
Aspen, ponderosa, bristlecone pine, and wildflowers galore. Deer can be seen in the early hours and birds are plentiful.
