Description
Little Zigzag Falls is a delightful, short excursion for children or those with limited mobility. Located at the end of Kiwanis Camp Road (Forest Road 19), the trail is a short half mile run one way with a bench at the falls to rest and enjoy the scenic setting.
The nearby Kiwanis Camp worked with the Forest Service to make the trail barrier free in summer of 2016 making it accessible to all. The area around the waterfall is near segments of the Barlow Road, (part of the Oregon Trail) and the trailhead parking area is located adjacent to an old bridge along what was once the Mt. Hood Highway, before it was relocated in the 1960's.
Flora & Fauna
The large western red cedar along the creek compete with Douglas fir and western hemlocks to provide shade along the trail. You will enjoy the lime green of a carpet of oxalis, swordfern, maidenhair fern, thimbleberry, false helebore, salal, and Oregon grape.
