Runner Notes
Though this route is a bit rooty, it's still a great trail for runners, and you may even be able to escape the crowds.
Description
Loop 3 is a bit more technical than
Highland Trail 1 and
Highland Trail 2, but runners experienced at traveling on rocky trail will relish the challenge. It has more roots and some small steep climbs which can be a challenge, even when there are well-placed switchbacks. Access this route from the E
Connector or from
Highland Trail 4.
Most people take the northern portion of loop 3 as part of an outer lap of the park. The southern part of Loop 3 does not get as much traffic and may offer some singletrack solitude if the park is crowded. Change up your normal lap of the park and explore!
