Overview

For runners in the area looking for a beautiful and adventurous route, look no further. This loop will take visitors through many different types of terrain, making for an enjoyable run.

Description

This trail will take you on narrow paths in mixed forests, through meadows and fields, and alongside rocks and caves - the landscape and geological highlights string together like pearls on a necklace.

"Fränkische Schweiz" = "Franconian Switzerland" is located in between the old famous cities like Nürnberg, Bamberg and Bayreuth in Franconia (north of Bavaria). It is not a high mountains region, but the name "Schweiz" (Switzerland) indicates that some areas absolutely have alpine character! Yet, alpine risks are not to be expected, as there is a village or a hostelry nearby at every point of the route.

Good footwear with adequate soles is a must, walking poles are helpful. You need to have a sufficient physical shape for about 1000 (positive!) meters of altitude difference over the course of about thirteen miles. The whole tour at a stretch is a challenge for normal runners - for apinists and experienced runners, it's perfect training.
