Features Views

This trail is primarily a mountain bike trail. Bikers have the right-of-way and may be traveling at speed.

This trail requires a Recreation Pass to access, which can be purchased at one of the day-use areas.

Runner Notes

The smooth dirt surface of this trail allows runners to enjoy their spectacular natural surroundings without fear of tripping.

Description

The Catamount Trail is a recent addition to Silver Falls State Park that opened to bikers and pedestrians in early 2016. Its drop-dead gorgeous forests, ancient fallen trees, and occasional creek crossings make this a fun, casual trail to climb on your way out and descend on your way back. Just be prepared to yield to oncoming bikers.

From the parking area, follow Lookout Mountain Road until you reach the Catamount Access Spur on your left. Take this and you'll soon arrive at the bottom of the trail on your right. All the intersections are well marked so navigating is easy.

Flora & Fauna

Age-old evergreens command the canopy overhead, while vibrant green ferns occupy the understory.
