Overview

A good workout trail that is close to the city and Waikiki. Geocachers take note - there are 20 caches along this trail.

Need to Know

The Maunalaha Trail has more pitch to it than the Kanealole Trail. Depending on how much climbing you want to do will determine if you go clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Description

The Makiki Valley Loop is actually a combination of the Kanealole Trail, the Maunalaha Trail, and the Makiki Valley Trail. It is a little over three miles round trip.

The east (right side from the trailhead) has a bit steeper pitch/climb to it. So you can adjust the direction of the loop depending on if you want a little more or less climb. The trail has enough pitch to get your heart rate up, but isn't so taxing that kids can't do it.

There are some nice city views. There is a stream running through the middle. There are a couple waterfalls visible from the trail, but you have to look for them. There are also some scenic vegetation areas.

Geocachers alert: There are about 20 geocaches hidden along this trail.

Flora & Fauna

Various birds. There is alot of foliage on the trail

Maybe 50% runnable, depends on how comfortable you are with technical root/rock sections. I did parts of makiki and other trails so my mileage is off

Beautiful scenery but a slow trail. A lot of the descents are rooty and have wet volcanic rock, making it slippery in some spots. 3.1mi — 0h 50m
