Description

The Alta Trail via Giant Forest is a scenic route that winds through Sequoia National Park, offering stunning views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and the Giant Forest. Starting from the Giant Forest Museum, the trail leads runners through lush woodlands, home to towering sequoias and various species of wildlife. The trail is moderate in difficulty, with some elevation gain as it ascends through dense forests and open meadows, ultimately connecting to the Alta Peak Trail Alta Meadow Trail.

Starting the Alta Trail from Giant Forest (versus Wolverton) offers a unique experience. Visitors will find fewer crowds on the Alta Trail while still enjoying the rewards of seeing towering sequoias, diverse flora, and occasional wildlife sightings. The trail follows a steady ascent westward, making it a moderately challenging trek. There are various intersecting trails and opportunities to personalize the adventure. The trail ends at the junction of Alta Peak Trail and Alta Meadow Trail.

Flora & Fauna

This trail features giant sequoias, various tree species, alpine wildflowers, and wildlife like mule deer, black bears and various bird species.
