Description

Rather than using Pima Canyon Trailhead, parking is often easier to find at the Beverly Canyon Trailhead, and you get to run some very scenic singletrack instead of the Dirt Road on your way to Mormon, National, and all the other great trails at SoMo. Tacking this onto the beginning and end of the South Mountain Park - East Tour is highly recommended!

From the Beverly Canyon Parking Lot, go west and a little south. You'll cross a few washes, and eventually face a pretty significant climb to the top of a ridge. From there, it's a short and steep, but very doable descent into Pima Wash, where you'll meet up with Mormon Loop Trail.

On the back side of this formation, the wash has carved a shallow cave into the rock. You'll see it coming down from the JC trail peak.

Javelina Canyon Trail is quiet and beautiful. Grand Saguaro cacti are frequent providing homes for the many birds.

The hike gradually gets steeper as you head up toward Ridgeline. I saw a few mountain bikers and hikers but the trail is far less crowded than the Mormon Trail.

From the top of the trail you have beautiful views into the valley.
