Overview

This is an 850 vertical foot strenuous run (~3 miles round-trip) to the top of Lenox Mountain (2,126'). Enjoy the vista of Mount Greylock to the north, the Taconic Range to the west, and the Catskill Mountains of New York to the southwest.

Need to Know

Caution—due to steep slopes and possible slippery conditions, Trail of the Ledges should only be taken up, not down.

Description

Head out on this clockwise loop from the Education Center parking area on the All Persons Trail. Continue west past Pike's Pond until the intersection with the Trail of the Ledges. This trail climbs rather abruptly and steeply for three-tenths of a mile past the Ravine Trail. It will begin to level off after the steepest section as you make the final push to the summit of Lenox Mountain and the firetower.

Enjoy the magnificent views you've earned and relish in the thought that it's all downhill from here.

Head back to the southeast along the Overbrook Trail through the hemlock ravine and past the Great Hemlock Trail. Continue onto the Bluebird Trail at an intersection with the Old Wood Road and Beaver Lodge Trail. The Bluebird Trail will return to the Education Center parking area.
