This eastern extension is part of the Homesteader Nature Trail. The trail follows a bluff above the creek on the northern portion of the route. There is a sustained but gradual hill after the hairpin turn at the northern extent of the route. The southern portion of the loop makes its way out of the trees and leads through a restored prairie.
