The trail is contained within a county park and is only open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Description
Along the way, runners can expect to find a good mix of hardwoods and pines. There are some grade changes, roots, rocks, etc... but nothing too difficult. Slow down to appreciate the nice views of a pond and an old farmstead located on the property. The trail is well marked and easy to follow.
Heading south from the parking lot, the trail follows the visible track of the historic road that used to connect Chapel Hill and Hillsborough. It cuts across an open meadow with a nice overlook of the park, and the remainder of the trail is wooded.
The going can get rocky in patches, and there are footbridges where the trail loops back and forth over a small creek. This portion of the trail ends near a historic cemetery, and from there you can continue on mowed paths to the farmstead and parking area,
North Mary's Trail, or
Alice's Loop Trail.
