The north section is closed until late summer. If gates are closed then trails are closed. Murphy-Hanrehan park is slice of wilderness 30 minutes outside the Twin Cities. This 17 mile loop is the staple for the Surf the Murph 50k, 50M and Savage 100. The wetlands and lakes are surrounded by well-maintained hiking trails.

Overview

A great race course loop in Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve. The loop follows a mix of cross-country ski trails and running trails. There are some steep climbs.

Need to Know

The south section is open to horses and dog walking, so be aware. Restrooms and water at the trailhead and a Horse Camp parking.

Description

This run is made up of many trails within Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve. The north section is wooded and follows cross-country ski trails. There are some steep climbs. Most of the trail is dirt or grass covered.

The south section is fairly open prairie with dirt trails. Many of the trails have grooves and run like singletrack.

Surf the Murph has 25KM, 50KM and 50 Mile options and the race is 1, 2 or 3 laps of this course.

The course is mainly on official trails, but there are a few sections which veer off the main trails.
