Overview
This race showcases the beautiful trails of the North Georgia Mountains. Entrants to GDR must have completed a qualifying race within the last 356 days before race day. And completed at least eight (8) hours of trail volunteer work. GDR is a Western States Endurance Run Golden Ticket event. See website for details. www.runbumtours.com
Need to Know
The race features 10 fully stocked aid stations, providing ample opportunity for food and fluids all along the course route. A safety runner is allowed to run with participants for part of the race. Check the website for details on safety runners, drop bags, and crew access.
Description
The Georgia Death Race is a point-to-point ultramarathon trail race. Start time is 8 am which gives runners of all levels the opportunity to witness the sunrise from the Duncan Ridge.
The first 8 miles has close to 3,500 feet of elevation change, including the 2,300 ft climb over 3.8 miles up to the summit of Coosa Bald, as well aa other long distance viewpoints from random points along the ridge trails.
Other course highlights include the Toccoa Swinging Bridge, the remote Benton Mackaye and
Duncan Ridge Trail, and finally climbing the 425 steps to the top of the 729 foot Amicalola waterfall.
Flora & Fauna
Leaves are off the trees at this time of year. There are some rhododendrons and mountain laurels along various points along the course.
