Runner Notes

Be aware of hunting seasons. This road gets used heavily by hunters during season, so wear orange if you attempt to run there during these times. You can drive about 5 miles into the road before it reaches a gate if you really want to get back in the backcountry and skip some gravel grinding.

This road has been used in the past for a celebratory fun run across the South Mountains called the Sultan 50k.

Description

This long gravel/dirt road is the main access to the South Mountain Game Lands and forms the southern border of the game lands and South Mountain State Park. The road is great for running, has challenging climbs, nice vistas, and a very remote feeling to it. There is not a lot of traffic on this road, especially after about 4 miles in when the road become rough and turns to dirt.
