Overview

A challenging run on well-maintained trails with extended views of Four Peaks and Weavers Needle.

Description

The first two miles climbs over 1000 feet from the Sunrise Trailhead to a saddle below Sunrise Peak. Stay on the Sunrise Trail for a little less than half a mile to the intersection of the Andrews-Kinsey Trail.

This trail is a joint effort of the Scottsdale and Fountain Hills preserves. I followed it for two miles to the border of these two towns, although it can be followed into Fountain Hills where a fairly major trail system has been established.

The the remaining miles on the Andrews-Kinsey Trail is relatively level as it follows the contour as it winds between several ridges and the intervening washes between them. Eventually you'll come to a rather steep descent, and you can choose to had back beforehand, or descent all the way to the Andrews-Kinsey Trailhead in Fountain Hills. If you parked at Sunrise Trail, you can walk down 143rd Way and turn right on N Stone View Trail to end of street. Walk down the fire access gravel road to the gates of Hidden Hill back in Scottsdale. Turn left on 145th Way back down to Sunrise Trail.

Flora & Fauna

Granite boulders, large saguaros.
