Salmon Mountain Trail is remote with little water. Access to the trail from snow is usually mid- to late June.
Description
Salmon Mountain Trail begins far along the
Plaza Trail #783. At the junction, head southeast up the hill to the Salmon Mountain ridgeline. Bear left on the ridge into the rhododendrons. The trail roughly follows the ridge up and down before dropping to the left slightly. An old user trail continues on the ridgeline for a short distance.
Follow the trail where it drops to the left and scramble your way through the rhododendron thickets using caution at a section with a steep, unstable sideslope. Keep going and regain the ridgeline. Bear right (south) for a short cross-country section up the edge of a steep meadow to the remnants of the Salmon Mountain Fire Lookout.
Flora & Fauna
Mountain hemlock, salal, Oregon grape, and thick thickets of rhododendron that are overtaking the trail!
