This trail is partially on private property. The Madonna Inn generously allows the public to access this trail system so be respectful, stay on the trail, and leave no trace so access can be perpetuated.
Runner Notes
The first part of this trail can be muddy and slick after it rains. The second half of the trail stays very dry because of how rocky it is. Trail shoes recommended.
Description
This trail lives up to its name...it is technical, rocky, and steep singletrack winding up the backside of CSL. The first part of the trail winds through seasonal streams and oak groves while the second half becomes more exposed and views of San Luis Obispo abound.
From
Lemon Grove Loop at its intersection with
CSL Perimeter Trail take an immediate left after the cattle guard and start a steep climb. From here, when in doubt, continue left and uphill as a general rule until you reach the fire road at the very top of CSL. About a quarter mile into the run, there is a 3-way intersection with a MTB bell station, take a left and continue uphill. Taking a right will lead you back to the
CSL Perimeter Trail. At the top of the run, this trail terminates into the CSL standard route fire road, take a right and the top of CSL is a few hundred meters uphill.
