This trail is an easy run that routes visitors close to the Mississippi River as well as passing Native American burial mounds. The mounds were constructed over 1000 years ago by the Woodland Culture. In summer, the entire site is covered in prairie wildflowers.

The park itself is managed by a non-profit organization, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation. All trails and amenities are maintained by the donations from visitors, which are accepted at the kiosk by the parking lot.

Views of prairie grasses and wildflowers abound, especially in the spring.
