Runner Notes
The Peninsula Trail is open to mountain bikers.
Description
The south end of the Peninsula Trail starts near the old picnic shelter and is a wide biking/running path. One of the best swim and picnic beaches is located off to the left in the first 100 yards. Big Rock Beach is just another couple of hundred yards; also good for a post-run swim. The trail joins the gravel road for a short distance then splits off. It's mostly flat with a few small rolling hills. The trail parallels the western shoreline the whole way.
There is one short climb near the northern end of the trail, and it takes you up to a great view of the Narrows of Payette Lake. Spend a few minutes here; it's a great view. The trail drops down, then quickly climbs again to connect up to an open road. Cross the road to connect with the
Huckleberry Trail or
Ridgeline Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Mule deer, ponderosa pines, and huckleberries.
