The lake-side section of the trail is considered a high-erosion area that is restricted to foot-traffic only.

Description

This loop trail begins at the Prairie Branch Camping Area and parking lot. From the trailhead, the first section will lead uphill and to the east - away from the lake. You'll head north along the hill through the thick forests of Huntsville State Park for about 3/4 of a mile.

The trail will then join Chinquapin Trail for a very short distance. Right before Alligator Branch, the trail will turn west, leaving Chinquapin Trail. This section of the trail is restricted to only running - no bikes are allowed. The trail will turn south and follow the shore of the lake back to the trailhead. Keep an eye out for alligators and other animals along this section.
