Pick up the trail from the small parking lot off the road. The trail can be hard to recognize at first so just point yourself toward the cliffs and start running perpendicular to the fence line.

The trail is rugged but flat and leads right up to the painted rocks. There are several washed out areas, especially as you get further from the road. You may have to scramble around some large rocks once in awhile.
