Runner Notes
This would make for an easy run on a flat and well-maintained track.
Description
This is a wide, easy, and well-maintained track that heads through a mature forest of red beech trees. Starting from the Lake Sylvan Campground, the trail immediately crosses the river on an impressive suspension bridge. From here, the track leads through the woods to a nice viewpoint at the southern edge of Lake Sylvan. This picturesque lake is especially lovely on a calm day when the reflections of the surrounding hills and distant mountains of Mt. Aspiring National Park are reflected in its still waters.
From this viewing platform, the track continues briefly along the shore of the lake until coming to a junction with the
Lake Sylvan to Rockburn Shelter Track. Stay to the right here to continue on the Lake Sylvan Track. This portion of the track follows along an old tramline loop from the 1920s, and while the majority of the forest has regrown and traces of the tramline are disappearing, if you look closely you can still find relics from the past.
The track eventually connects back on itself, and you can retrace your steps back to the campground/parking lot.
