Runner Notes
Lots of people run this this trail. Be prepared for the first mile of steep incline before it levels out at the rim.
Description
This run starts at a nice paved trailhead with a bathroom. The first 3/4 of a mile is a steep climb with switchbacks (800'-900' elevation gain). The trail is well used and easy to follow. When you reach the rim of the caldera, you can either go left or right to circumnavigate the rim. The rim is a little less then two miles around.
A radio tower is in operation at the highpoint of the butte. The terrain is generally easy to navigate with several steep inclines and rocky spots. Some people prefer to have trekking poles or a walking stick for the run. Great views of the surrounding area can be had from the edge of the rim, and the butte itself is interesting to observe and explore.
