Kauri trees grow along these trails. Please use the gear cleaning stations at the start and end of your run to prevent the spread of Kauri dieback.

Runner Notes

Don't worry - a little pavement pounding on this access trail will get you to some much more enjoyable trails in the area.

Description

This trail is definitely more of a means to an end. While not particular exciting on its own, it does take runners to the top Waitakere Falls (one of the highest falls in the Auckland area). Additionally, you'll be able to view and explore the dam at the northern end of Waitakere Reservoir. From the end of the trail you have your choice of trails to continue your run further into Cascade Kauri Regional Park.

Flora & Fauna

Several large Kauri trees along the trail mixed in with the lowland podocarp broadleaf forest.
