Section Of

Description

This is the first section of the Long Trail (or last, depending on the direction you are running.) It is also one of the easiest because of it's easy access and relatively flat, well-maintained trail. This section spans the Palisades, a long cliff overlooking the Hudson River and New York City. There are many viewpoint and stone ruins along the way from a time when the area was a popular weekend tourist location for people from NYC.

This section is known as section one and is about 14 miles long spanning from the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, NJ and traveling north along the Palisades to the border with New York State. There are several access points, and the trail is commonly done as part of a loop run joining the Shore Trail on the shore of the Hudson River.

Great trail because accessible; at times muddy and generally a bit technical, but great views. 14mi — 2h 30m
